Pinhole Leaks: A Sinister, Sneaky Plumbing Problem

two-copper-pipesOne of the big advantages of using copper piping in a house rather than older pipe materials like galvanized steel and cast iron is that copper is corrosion-resistant. Steel and iron tend to rust away over time, while copper has a much longer life and won’t allow toxins to get into the freshwater.

But people often get the idea that copper doesn’t corrode at all, which isn’t true. A corrosion-resistant metal isn’t a corrosion-proof metal. There is a type of corrosion that affects copper, and it can lead to one of the most insidious of all plumbing problems: pinhole leaks.
