Act Now! Save Thousands of Dollars Through the Mass Save Program

Mass Savings.

Massachusetts homeowners have until April 30th to take advantage of the Mass Save®  fossil fuel equipment program, offering thousands of dollars in rebates and zero-interest loans on natural gas, oil, and propane heating equipment.

Basnett Plumbing Heating & Cooling can facilitate an energy audit to determine your eligibility. We’re a family-owned business helping MetroWest Boston homeowners and businesses with all their heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical needs.

What Is Mass Save?

Mass Save is a locally sponsored program with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources to promote energy efficiency in Massachusetts. The program enables Massachusetts residents and businesses to receive a no-cost Mass Save home assessment, as well as incentives to purchase energy-equipment equipment and services, including:

  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment
  • Water heating equipment
  • Insulation
  • Air and duct sealing

How Much Can I Save Through Mass Save?

If your home meets specific weatherization guidelines and you’re a customer of an eligible utility company, you could qualify for up to a $16,000 rebate on an air source heat pump to heat and cool your home. You can also qualify for up to $2,000 dollars in federal tax credits.

You need to hire an eligible contractor like Basnett to do the work.

Mass Save has a Heat Loan program that offers up to a 7-year, zero-interest payment option. You can borrow up to $50,000 for qualifying home improvements.

Who Qualifies for the Mass Save Program?

Massachusetts homeowners, renters, landlords, and businesses who are customers of qualifying local utility companies are eligible. Some rebates and incentives are based on household income. Our team at Basnett Plumbing Heating & Cooling can help recommend the best options for your home and income.

Creating a Healthier Home

According to Mass Save, energy-efficient upgrades in Massachusetts resulted in 223,000 metric tons of CO2 avoided in 2023. That’s the equivalent of removing over 53,000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles off the road for one year.

Through the program, air-source heat pumps were installed in over 28,000 Massachusetts homes, and an additional 55,500 homes were weatherized.

Deadline Dates

These key deadlines must be met for rebates and financing regarding equipment powered by natural gas, oil, and propane this year:

  1. HEAT Loan authorization letter—must be requested by April 30, 2024.
  2. Equipment installation – Equipment must be installed by August 31, 2024.
  3. Equipment rebate requests and supporting documentation—must be submitted by September 30, 2024.

Please reach out to Basnett Plumbing Heating & Cooling if you have any questions about the deadlines.

Massachusetts Heating and Cooling Federal Tax Credits

MetroWest homeowners and businesses may also qualify for federal tax credits. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) has extended 30 percent tax credits through 2032 for high-efficiency HVAC systems and other home improvements.

Maximum credits are:

  • Air conditioners, furnaces, and boilers—$600
  • Air-source heat pumps—$2,000
  • Gas water heaters—$600
  • Heat pump water heaters—$2,000

Basnett Plumbing Heating & Cooling can help determine how much money you can save between federal tax credits and Mass Save incentives.

Typically, the upfront costs are the biggest challenge to upgrading your HVAC equipment. These programs are designed to offset those costs so you and your loved ones can enjoy a healthy and efficient home.

Timing is everything, and now is the time to make that decision to say goodbye to your old, inefficient, costly systems and say hello to new, reliable, energy efficient ones.  You deserve peace of mind AND you can have it at a SUPER AFFORDABLE price!
